Mining and Quarrying Day

Safety and environmental protection when using mobile operating plant and machinery

Management of inert material washing water slurry

Safety and environmental protection when using mobile operating plant and machinery

Saturday 8 march 2008, 10.00 - 13.00
Respighi Hall 1st Floor - Palaexpo

The convention focuses on problems associated with safety, worker health and environmental protection in the use of mobile machinery in open sites with specific reference to the mining sector and plant for processing and recycling non-harmful waste.
The characteristic aspect of "mobile machines", that by their very nature involve continual or frequent movements (excavators, mechanical shovels, truck-mounted cranes, etc.), including "self-propelled plant" or systems that in any case are transferred from one site to another, involves specific problems in terms of work, worker safeguards and eventual environmental interferences.
In the mining world, on the other hand, slurry arising from inert material grading and washing operations is a topic of major current interest, not the least because of new legislation covering the environment and its often irregular application.
These are the reasons behind the organisation of a specific convention capable of ensuring meetings and comparisons between companies involved in quarry exploitation work and providing updated in the field with specific reference to the following profiles:
Overview of standards in relation to the recent so-called Environment Code, the latest legal decisions and forthcoming innovations in the sphere of the European Union (directive for mining waste); management in particular of discharges into water tables from quarries and the role of ARPA (environmental agencies); safe management of decantation tanks (from development to draining operations); technological updates concerning machinery and plant; The point of view of entrepreneurs: Practical examples of management and economic recycling of washing slurry.

Programme
  1. Safety at work and the machinery directive
    1. The new Machinery Directive : system characteristics - intrinsic system safety;
    2. Marking of parts and assemblies and installation of machines;
    3. Safety - productivity - job effectiveness - conservation and maintenance of machines.

  2. Information and training-programming
    1. Accidents and professional illnesses in the operations analysed: prevalent types - characteristics. Comfort and stress. Standards of behaviour - acquisition of awareness - work times - levels of attention.
    2. Coordination of work: operative programming: relationships with other work activities: machine operators and others workers on sites, maintenance staff.
    3. Collaboration with machinery builders - Information for non-EU workers.

  3. Work environment and interference with the external environment
    1. Particulate matter (exposure of operators and environmental management of sites) - specific analysis of critical pollutants;
    2. Noise and vibrations - exposure of workers; forecasts and management of particulate emissions and noise;
    3. Disposal, etc.

Management of inert material washing water slurry

Friday 7 March 2008, 9.30
Puccini Hall - Arena Conference Centre

As is well-known to operators in the quarrying and aggregate production sector, slurry arising from inert material grading and washing operations is a topic of major current interest, not the least because of new legislation covering the environment and its often irregular application.
A.N.E.P.L.A. has therefore organised a specific convention focusing on this topic as an opportunity for meetings and comparisons between companies involved in quarry exploitation work, professionals and experts in sector ensuring updates in this area.
Many themes will be discussed, including an overview of the problem in relation to environmental regulations as a necessary and obvious introduction, safety profiles, technical plant updates and a presentation of practical examples detailing opportunities for the economic re-use of such slurry.

Programme
9.30 Registration of participants
9.40 Welcome by the President
Giovanni Vezzola - President A.N.E.P.L.A.
9.50 Overview of regulations
