Growth and quality of companies: the need for social and institutional support.

Friday 7 March 2008, 9.30
Vivaldi Hall - Europa Conference Centre

Although Eurostat data ranks Italy below the European average as regards accidents at work (in absolute terms and in the building sector), the problem in any case is still a full-scale emergency demanding intervention by institutions, trade unions, society as a whole and the entire production system.
In the construction sector, Ance - the National Association of Building Constructors - has been in forefront for many years as regards efforts to combat accidents at work; such efforts, together with trade unions, have involved more than 300 organisms including safety committees, public building authorities and construction training schools all over Italy.
This network in Italy is the main investment in a production sector focusing on culture, training and safety controls that in recent years has made it possible to achieve important results in the prevention of accidents.
Safety in building sites, for Ance, is a constant commitment and has seen the launch of an important "safety project" proposing effective regulations and solutions; Ance has also set up the National Agency for safety culture in the building industry, an organism promoting initiatives such as the National Award for safety culture intended to enhance social awareness through the ethical concept of individual responsibility whereby the culture of safety, at a personal level and for others, is a social duty rather than just a "right".
The convention, organised in collaboration with VeronaFiere within the scope of Samoter, aims to focus on the regulatory situation covering this delicate topic and to promote dialogue with authorities, trade unions and other parties involved by outlining the proposals and initiatives developed by the ANCE system itself.
